So…I Shave My Face…You Don’t?

Hey Ya’ll!

I can hardly believe it is November already! I actually really love November because it is the beginning of the holiday season in my opinion. The holidays around here are pretty big, and I totally get into it. I love to decorate the whole house, make yummy holiday cookies, and drink hot cocoa! I literally can’t wait to get the tree up already, is that crazy? Because baby is coming right at the end of December I feel I have an excuse to get an early jump on the holiday decorating. I would rather it be all up and have the next 7 weeks to enjoy it!

Ok anyhoo! Today is the day…

I have been so excited to talk to you about how I do my at home mini facial! Most importantly how I keep my skin smooth and young. First a little back story… So I started working at a skin spa here in Las Vegas when hubby and I lived in our old house. (Two houses ago!) I started as a receptionist and worked my way up to operations manager in less then a year. It was an amazing experience and what I learned about skin care is priceless! I was able to get all kinds of skin care treatments as part of the job, and the aestheticians were absolutely amazing! One of my favorite treatments was Dermaplaning.

If you have never heard of dermaplaning I will tell you, you are missing out! The aesthetician uses a fine blade to remove dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin. It is a form of exfoliation and leaves your skin baby soft and smooth! Because of the way the treatment is done, it also removes those fine peach fuzz type hairs on your skin! This is my favorite part of all, because that little peach fuzz on your face can be annoying when applying makeup. Once you try it you get addicted, believe me!

Now that I am at home and not working at the spa anymore I started dermaplaning on my own. I learned how from the aestheticians and since I can do it myself I love that I can keep my skin smooth and healthy all the time!

The Process:

Step 1 – I start by using a round brush to brush on baby powder. This helps to make the hairs on your skin super visible.

Step 2 – Next I take the blade and in an upward motion, gently “shave” the skin. I will do the sides of my face, my nose, and a little on my forehead. I will go up the sides of my neck sometimes if I feel I need it. (Blondes tend to have more peach fuzz then others!)

Step 3 – I will then take the brush again and brush off any excess powder until my face is clean. Simply splash some cool water on after, and apply a favorite skin serum or moisturizer.

Step 4 – It is recommended to use a Vitamin C serum on your skin directly following a dermaplane treatment. Because you just exfoliated your skin the serum will penetrate deeper into your skin for better results! I linked a few of my favorite serums in the widget below.

Small Disclaimer: This is a process that must be done carefully! You must be sure you go slow and gentle, the blade is sharp and can cut your skin.

*It will not make your hair grow back thicker or darker.*

So there you have it! I do this about once a month and follow with a mask the next day. It makes my skin glow and look super youthful! I can not live without it! If you have questions about dermaplaning or you would like more information on the process feel free to email me!

I have read so much about shaving, but your explanation is the most thorough so far. Question-do you only focus on peach fuzz, or do you also remove hairs on your upper lip? Mine are a little thicker there and I usually wax them. Would love your take on it!

      Hey Girl!

Yes, actually at the spa the aestheticians ALWAYS did a full face dermaplaning treatment, and the client would never have to wax thier upper lip. I do all my peach fuzz, and then I do my upper lip area and even my chin! It lasts a full 4 weeks for me, although everyone is a little different!! I recommend you give it a try, it is really so easy, just take your time!

      Hey Lady!

Microblading I believe is a treatment for your eyebrows only, and involves a smei-permanent tattooing process. If you mean microdermabrasion, there is a difference between dermaplaning and microdermabrasion. Dermaplaning removes the hair while microdermabrasion does not!

I’ve heard of this and always wondered if you could do it at home. Thanks for the amazing tutorial and for explaining the step-by-step process. xo Jana | http://www.janastyleblog.com
