Lip Care Routine for Dry Lips

Hey I hope you all had a wonderful Memorial Day weekend!

We did not do much, and I will be honest it was nice! However being at home a ton lately, and it feeling like this darn 1st trimester is dragging, I am 100% getting very ready for a trip and to get the heck outta town for bit! I feel like I have been so cooped up, and just tired and sick and blagh… I am in serious need of exercise and a change of scenery!

So Arthur and Aria and I have booked a flight out to Minnesota at the end of June to go visit family for a while, and we plan to make the most out of this trip and visit as many friends and family as we can. We may stay in Minneapolis a few nights, my parents a few nights, and then we may even take a detour on our way home and go to the ocean! Either that or we will do a trip out to Malibu later this summer too. Whatever we do I am ready for it!

Also I want to get back into an everyday workout routine, and I will be sharing that journey with you all as well. I have always enjoyed working out, and having to go through another pregnancy so soon has really set me back. I have a pregnancy safe cardio and strength routine that can be done at home or at the gym, and I am excited to get going on that!

Anyhoo…

It is not technically summer yet, but it definitely feels like it here. It has been HOT! Luckily I haven’t had much reason to get out of the house, so I have been able to avoid it. But with the temps rising, the dryness in the air is more brutal. And my lips are the first to notice, ughh.

I wanted to share my lip routine for dry lips because this time of year, and really any time of year, it is so important to have healthy lips! It is so easy to forget about lips, or just ignore them. I can’t stand dry chapped lips, and let me tell you it is not cute when putting on lipstick either! The routine I am sharing with you is what I do every night before bed, and a few tips for throughout the day too!

Lip Care Routine for Dry Lips

Step 1: Exfoliate!

A sugar lip scrub works wonders on removing dry dead skin from your lips. You can easily make your own lip scrub, but I love using the Fizz & Bubble Lip Scrubs from Ulta! There lip scrubs smell SO GOOD, and they don’t get hard and dried up like some other brands I have tried do. Right now I am using the Mint Mojito scent, YUM!

Step 2: Infused Water!

This step may seem out of order, and you definitely need to be sure your drinking your full 8 glasses of water everyday to keep ALL your skin hydrated. But I love a tall glass of fruit or veggie infused water before bed, not only for my lips but for my tummy too! It just helps me sleep better and it tastes a little better then plain water and adds extra nutrients that your body needs while you sleep. Lately I have been adding sliced cucumbers to my night time glass of water!

Step 3: Moisturize!

I have raved about the Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask on several other occasions and in several other blog posts, but it is because it is seriously that good. This stuff is like liquid gold to me, and I will forever recommend it to anyone looking for the best lip care. I apply a thick layer to my lips right before I lay down to sleep. I promise you, no matter how bad my lips are, I am guaranteed smooth, moist lips by morning. EVERY TIME! Also this stuff lasts forever! So worth it!

Step 4: Cool Mist Humidifier!

Probably one thing you may never think of doing is putting a humidifier in your bedroom. Before Aria was born her pediatrician recommended to us to purchase a cool mist humidifier to put in her room near her crib to turn on at night while she sleeps. The humidifier fills the air with moisture and helps to prevent not only dry skin but a dry mouth and throat too. It encourages healthy lungs and breathing! Well, we bought two and keep one in our room as well because I notice that much of a difference and it truly helps my lips and skin in general to stay hydrated all throughout the night!

A couple other things I use all the time to help care for my lips is first, a good SPF lip balm to put on throughout the day. It is really easy to forget that your lips can get sun damage too, and it is so important to protect them! Secondly, I also love, LOVE the Kopari Coconut Oil. I use it under my lipsticks to help from drying my lips out. Especially matte lipsticks that tend to dry lips out faster! The Kopari coconut oil keeps my lips soft and hydrated all day long.

P.S. Here is a little behind the scenes shot that I just couldn’t leave out! Tee Hee!

I still need to try that lip mask. It’s on my list!

I use a humidifier mostly in the winter. Cleaning it is a pain, but I found just putting some vinegar in it and letting it sit for a while, then scrubbing with an old toothbrush & rinsing works pretty well.

This one has been really easy to clean! We just do it once a month and love how well it moisturizes the air in our rooms at night! I will clean it once a month just for that!

Infused water for dry lips? Who’d have thought? I have to try this! My lips are always dry so maybe this is the part that I’m missing.

I love all these tips. I just started using a lip exfoliater and have all natural based balms I put on.

So glad I read your post! I’ve been looking for a good humidifier for a while now because I always seem to wake up with a dry throat and lips. The first one I got broke at some point during the night and wouldn’t turn back on. I’ll have to try the one you have!
