Happy Sunday!

This time of year can be some of the happiest and most cheerful for some people, and for others it can be the opposite. It is no secret that with all the joy of creating memories with family and friends, also comes a lot of additional stress. And on top of all of that, the shorter days, fewer hours of sunlight, and cooler temps can make this time of year somewhat depressing to say the least.

I am sharing below some ways you can beat those holiday blues and really enjoy the festivities this year.

Set your expectations low.

Ok as “scrooge” as that may sound, having low expectations for the holidays can ensure that you won’t be let down. I start with this one because it is very easy to get your hopes up for traditions, and how you expect things to go for the holidays and this is something I struggle with a lot! Even for those of us who are really into the holiday spirit and love to do all the things, it’s a fast bummer when something does’t go as planned. Set those expectations low, and bring down that level of “have-tos” and the season will instantly be lighter.

Treat yourself.

It can be really easy to get caught up in what you have to do for others this time of year. From cleaning before company arrives, to shopping for the perfect gifts, and to cooking endless meals and treats; there can be a never ending list of things to be done for everyone but yourself. Take the time to step away and get yourself a little treat. It is the holidays and it is important to enjoy them!

Deck the halls.

A lot of people forget to take in the holiday scents, sights, and sounds. My number one favorite thing to do during the holidays is wake up early, light a holiday scented candle, turn on the Christmas tree, and enjoy a peppermint mocha while listening to Christmas radio. Sometimes just a little holiday spirit is all you need!

Keep something to look forward to on the calendar.

No matter what time of year it is, it is always good to have something on the calendar that you can look forward to. Having a goal or a vacation, or even just a date night planned can make those long days seem a little less hard. I like to pick a cool weather activity to do so I am enjoying the cooler temps instead of hiding from them!

Keep it traditional.

At the end of the day making and keeping traditions is what the holidays always comes back to. Laugh at the mishaps, learn from your mistakes, and just remember that no matter what, these are times you never get to have twice the exact same so try to relish in the moments.
