Spa Day for Mom and Baby at Home

Mommy and Me Spa

Ever since Aria was born, she has been my new best friend. I do everything with her! Let me tell you, it is not always the easiest, but I have grown to love every moment with her. Even when I think if only I could just jump in the car and run to the store alone…it would be so much easier and faster! As soon as I get out of the driveway without her, I already start missing her! And because I still need those days to pamper myself, I have found a way to do just that with my 4 month old daughter. It may sound like an impossible task, but in all actuality it is not only very doable but also very enjoyable!

Aria takes a bath every night before bed as part of her nighttime routine. So I just extended that very loved bath time and turned it into something of a mini at home spa day for her and I. Below I am sharing with you how I do an at home spa day with baby. It can be done at any time of day and in any order that works best for you!

Begin with setting the mood…

Start the whole spa day with the right, and play some relaxing music! Baby’s love music, and even more so they love hearing their mother sing to them! I love to play Sleep Baby Sleep, Music for Quiet Moments on Pandora, and because it is instrumental it is super relaxing but also they play many songs that are well known so I can also sing along. Sometimes Aria likes to try to sing along with me!

Hair Mask

For Momma: Before filling the bath, quickly rinse your hair under the faucet and rub in a good hair mask that can sit in your hair the entire time. I like many different brands but the one I have been using lately is the Brigeo Don’t Despair, Repair Deep Conditioning Mask. After that wrap it in a towel, and get baby ready!

For Baby: Baby oil! Many baby’s suffer from the infamous cradle cap at some point. Even if your baby hasn’t, baby oil is wonderful for that soft baby head! I simply pour a little bit of oil into my hand, rub together, and then gently massage onto my little ones head. That moisture will work to heal any dry scalp and help to take care of those delicate baby hairs! You can also add the tiniest bit of all natural lavender essential oil into the baby oil, to give a soothing and relaxing scent. I often will put a cozy hat on after applying the oil and let her sleep in it all night!

Face Mask

For Momma: Sephora sells a wide range of different face masks. I usually stock up on a bunch and keep them in a basket next to the bath to throw on when I have a moment! While in the bath with baby, simply rub on your favorite mask and let it sit while you rub-a-dub-dub that baby clean!

For Baby: A baby lotion with oatmeal is fantastic for that soft baby skin. Simply first take a small wash cloth and gently wipe your baby’s face with warm water. I make sure to get really good around the mouth and cheeks. There may be milk residue or even makeup from myself kissing and snuggling her earlier in the day. It is important to get all that dirt and grim off a delicate baby’s skin to avoid irritation and breakouts!

Some baby’s go through a period where they get baby acne as well.

It is natural to think they need the areas to be dried, out kind of like us when we get acne. But baby’s actually get baby acne because their skin is too dry. Follow washing baby’s face with a good baby oatmeal lotion. I have been putting lotion on Aria’s face before bed every night since she was born and she has the best skin. If she does get any acne is goes away by morning!

Mani/Pedi

For Momma: Now is not the time to be using chemicals, so rubbing alcohol to remove polish or painting your toes a bright pink is out of the question. However, my favorite thing to do with baby girl is sit in a warm bath and just let our little toes soak! You can use a gentle baby soap in the water to help soften your dry skin, and then I use a foot scrapper to scrap off any calluses and dead skin. Leaving my feet just as smooth and soft as hers!

For Baby: Baby’s nails grow FAST! Too fast in my opinion because I will admit that trimming baby’s nails nearly gives me a heart attack every time! Regardless, those baby nails will grow, and they will soon scratch themselves badly if you don’t take care of those little claws ASAP. Now is a good time to gently file down those cute little nails. It is a lot less terrifying then using a baby nail clipper! As your baby gets bigger, eventually using a nail clipper will be faster. I promise with practice you soon get it down. A little trick I use is giving a toy for her to hold in on hand while I work on the other!

Moisturize

For Mama: Grab your favorite body lotion and mix it with some baby oil! Especially if you are recently postpartum you want that extra moisture for your skin! I love using baby oil, it works wonderfully and it smells just as great!

For Baby: Put baby oil on elbows, knees, and back of neck of baby. These are often the driest areas on a baby’s skin. Especially when baby starts lots of tummy time and is pushing more and more on those delicate little elbows and knees!

Once you are all done and both you and baby are nice and clean and relaxed it is time to snuggle up! Maybe grab a bottle, and take a little nap together or head to bed! Truly these are the moments to cherish! If it doesn’t go exactly the way you plan, don’t worry! It is all about enjoying time with your little one and getting some peaceful quiet time together!

If you try this out or if you have ways to pamper yourself and your baby at the same time. Let me know in the comments below! I would love to hear all about it!
