Trendy Holiday DIYs

Trendy Holiday DIYs

Crafts are a big part of the holiday season for many people, from making a gingerbread house to decorating a Christmas tree, it is safe to say crafts and creation take center stage this time of year. I have always loved crafting and making things with my hands, but this year has been one of the first where I made more than 70% of my new Christmas decor. DIYs have quickly become a new hobby of mine, for the Christmas holiday, and far beyond. I have already been planning my DIYs for Valentine’s day!

Before I go that far though, I am here today to share with you my top favorite Trendy DIYs I have created so far this season. These are all fun, easy, and affordable for anyone to do and create for themselves! If you take any inspiration from this post and make anything of your own I would love to see!

Gnome Ornament

I shared this DIY on my Instagram over the weekend and got a lot of requests for a tutorial! I will be putting the video tutorial up on my Instagram highlights so check there for that. Here is what you will need…

Supplies:

  • Glittery Felt Paper – Available at Hobby Lobby for .79ea
  • String
  • Craft Fuzz – Available at Hobby Lobby
  • Felt pom balls, beads, or whatever you wish for the gnome nose
  • Hot glue gun
  • (Optional) Thread/needle/sequins if you wish

Instructions:

  1. Create a pattern to cut the correct shape for the gnome hat out of your glitter felt paper. If you would like to use my pattern simple email me (lydialouiseblog at gmail dot com) and I will send you the PDF.
  2. Shape the hat into a cone and glue the back edges together.
  3. Using the craft fuzz loop out a handful size of your choice of color fuzz and tie it together at the top. Using a scissor cut the bottom loops and sides of the beard to create the desired shape and length.
  4. Guide the string through the tip of the hat so you have a way to hang your gnome. Then glue the beard into the bottom open part of the hat.
  5. Once the glue cools grab your pom/bead and glue the nose into place.
  6. Hang it on your tree!

The blanket in the above photo was one of my favorite DIYs this year, and I was so surprised by how good it turned out! It is very easy and very affordable! All you need is a knit blanket (I went with white), and you can find them for $20 at Home Goods, and 3-4 reams of yarn. I chose to do 4 different colors and I think that was perfect.

Once you have your supplies simply create large tassel poms with the yarn and attach them to the blanket by pulling up one of the knit stitches and tying it on! So easy!

The rest of these DIYs are ornaments and stocking embellishments and all very easy to do! You can supply yourself with beads, yarns, blank wood ornaments and needle and thread from Hobby Lobby or Micheals and go to town just being creative! These styles are all inspired by some of my favorite bloggers ( @hellosweethome @chasing_nastolgia @stephaniehannablog ) and Anthropologie! If you make any of these I would love to see them!
