Pink & Purple DIY Bat Costumes

Aria and Ella have the sweetest little bat dolls they got in their boo baskets this year from Moonflower Minis. They play with them everyday and love them so much I had the idea of creating matching halloween costumes for them to where this year! These were super easy to create, I DIY’d the wings and ears and then the rest was a simple Amazon purchase.

These are the sweet bat dolls that were the inspo for these costumes! They make great little gifts for Halloween!

To make the bat wings I first purchase 1 yard of purple and pink flannel fabric from JoAnn’s. It was 50% off so total cost for both yards of fabric was under $5! I had my girls lay down on the fabric and marked where their wrists hit stretched out. I knew I wanted to attach ribbon at this point so I could tie their wings on and they would not buckle in extra fabric or be too short.

After I had the wing span marked I simple took a pencil and drew out the shape I wanted the wings to be directly onto the fabric and cut it out. The yard of fabric was enough for the wings to be two layers so I made sure I cut them through both layers of the folded fabric. Then I simply sewed along the edge all the way around, and sewed on the ribbon at where the wrists would hit.

Just like the bat dolls, I wanted their wings to have a glitter or textured center. I found these glitter fabric sheets at Hobby Lobby and cute them to fit the center of the inside side of the wings. I used hot glue to attach them and it worked great for stiffening the wings! Once that part was finished the wings were done!

I picked up a pack of plastic cat ears from Target and used extra glitter fabric to cut and glue bat ears over the cat ear shapes. Boom bat ears! So simple!

I ordered light pink and light purple leos and pink and purple tights off of Amazon tom complete the costumes! To make the bat wings stay up in the back I used a paper clip to attache the wings to the center back of the leos. I did not want to sew them on because I knew I would want to use the leos later for dance and gymnastics classes!

There you have it! Easy and adorable matching sister costumes you can make and DIY on your own for almost nothing! Below are the leos and tights I purchased.
